DEPKA advantages
No primer needed
Once the wall is built, you can apply cotton plaster directly. There is no need for separate materials or labour for primer, gypsum and paint.

Straight onto the wall
In conventional wall finishing, base plaster is followed by finishing plaster, gypsum, a fine gypsum skim coat, primer and paint. Every layer means separate materials and separate labour.
DEPKA cotton wall plaster can take the place of all these layers on its own, and it is applied to natural surfaces without primer. On concrete, base plaster, gypsum, plasterboard, brick and aerated concrete, all you need to do is remove the dust.
There is no need to set aside a separate budget for primer and paint, or for the labour to apply them.

Primer needs by surface
| Surface | Primer | Preparation |
|---|---|---|
| Bare concrete, base and finishing plaster | Not needed | Remove the dust with a damp cloth and let it dry |
| Gypsum, gypsum skim, plasterboard | Not needed | The surface must be dry and dust-free |
| Brick, aerated concrete, stone | Not needed | Fill large gaps with gypsum or cement |
| Wood, PVC, metal, glass, ceramic | Not needed | The surface must be dry and clean |
| Sound paint that does not dissolve in water | Recommended | Use a silicone-free conversion primer or ceiling paint |
| Damaged or powdery surface | Recommended | A concrete bonding primer gives a more durable result |
| Poor-quality, water-soluble paint | — | Must be removed before application |
| Wallpaper | — | Must be stripped |
If you have applied primer or wiped the surface with a damp cloth, let it dry before you start applying cotton plaster.
Why painted surfaces need care
If paint was applied without the dust underneath being removed, it can swell and blister with the moisture in cotton plaster and become distorted together with the coating. To avoid any risk on painted surfaces, we recommend applying a silicone-free conversion primer.
About primer
Is primer essential for cotton plaster?
No. It is applied without primer to natural surfaces such as concrete, plaster, gypsum and brick. A primer is recommended on painted and damaged surfaces.
Which primer should I use?
On painted surfaces you can use a silicone-free conversion primer or ceiling paint; on damaged surfaces, a concrete bonding primer. Wait for the primer to dry before you start applying.
