DEPKA advantages

Can be shaped into any design

Thanks to its paste-like consistency, cotton plaster is an artistic material that can be shaped right on the wall. Any design, even a picture, can be made in any colour and style.

Turn your wall into a canvas

In interior decoration, DEPKA cotton plaster is used for pictures, emblems, column decorations and ceiling light surrounds in every colour and style. Designs such as figures, lettering, numbers and logos are worked directly into the wall.

The colours are prepared as separate mixes and combined on the wall or on the trowel to form the pattern. You can also blend colours while dry to create speckled, mixed textures.

Once dry, the design becomes a seamless part of the wall.

How to create a pattern

In patterned work each colour is prepared separately; the mixing rules are the same as for a single-colour application.

  1. 01

    Plan the design

Decide on the position and size of the pattern and the colours you will use.

  2. 02

    Prepare each colour separately

Mix each colour in its own container at 4 litres of warm water per 1 kg for 20–25 minutes, leave it to rest for 20 minutes, then mix again for 5 minutes.

  3. 03

    Work the shape

Use the transparent Depka trowel to combine the colours on the wall or on the trowel and build up the pattern. The application thickness is 1.5–2 mm.

  4. 04

    Leave to dry

The pattern dries in 12–24 hours. If trowel marks remain once it is dry, lightly moisten the surface and smooth it out.

Tip

Until you get the hang of it, practise by working in small sections, like a jigsaw puzzle. For large or corporate designs, get in touch.

Frequently asked questions

Can I create patterns with cotton plaster myself?

Yes. Bands and geometric patterns are easy to achieve after a few attempts. For detailed figures and logos, we recommend working with an experienced applicator.

Can patterned work also be done on ceilings?

Yes. As well as interior walls, cotton plaster is applied to ceilings; frames around ceiling roses and light fittings are among the most popular designs.

Can the patterns made with silk plaster also be made with cotton plaster?

Bands, motifs and figure-style patterns can also be made with DEPKA cotton plaster. DEPKA is not silk plaster; it is made from cotton, a natural adhesive and natural stone.
